The Expected Schoolwide Learning Results, ESLRs, outlines clear goals in the areas of academic, physical, spiritual and social development for each student attending. Throughout the year, students are evaluated on how well they exemplify these ESLRs in the classroom and in the community in an effort to not only assist each student to reach their potential as students but also as shining citizens in society.
GUAM ADVENTIST ACADEMY’S ESLR
(Expected Schoolwide Learning Results)
Academic (Mental) development as evidenced by
- Proficiency in all curricular areas
We endeavor for our students to achieve advanced knowledge in all their classes reaching their full potential as we know they can achieve.
- Effective communication skills
People with effective communication skills have an upper-hand in society. We know that by equipping our students with effective communication skills they will be able to not only work well with others, but resolve many of the issues they will face in the future.
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Our goal is to implement into our curriculum methods for students to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills in order to better find solutions to challenges and offer creative ways to tackle these challenges.
- A desire for life-long learning college and vocational preparation
We encourage our students to continue their education beyond their high school career. The skills they acquire and develop in their years at GAA and in their higher education will enable them to be successful in the rapidly changing world we live in.
Physical development as evidenced by
- The application of the five components of fitness: cardiovascular, body composition, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and muscular flexibility
Physical development not only reduces the occurrence of disease, but helps to maintain a better quality of life. By applying these five components of fitness, we are educating and instilling in each student the benefits of maintaining total fitness.
- The development of a lifestyle that includes a lifetime fitness program
We not only want our students to reach their top physical potential during the time they attend GAA, but we also endeavor for them to go out from our school practicing the important principles that will help reduce disease and increase their quality of life.
Spiritual development as evidenced by
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ
As a Seventh-day Adventist institution, we strive to have each student develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe that by having a relationship with Christ, we will be prepared for His coming and for eternity with Him.
- A personal prayer life
Though prayer is a daily occurrence in the classroom, we try to instill in our students the importance of their own personal prayer life in order to cultivate a personal relationship with Christ.
- An understanding of Biblical teachings
Seventh-day Adventists base their beliefs solely on the Bible, and by encouraging our students to understand the principles taught in the Word of God, we help them better understand their Creator and solidify their spiritual beliefs.
- Participation in a Christian life of service
As a Christian school, we strive to exemplify the image of Christ in our daily lives. When Christ walked on this earth, He led a life of service to people of all walks of life, especially the poor and lowly. Therefore we require our students to participate in community service projects throughout the school year in order to instill a mentality of giving back to society.
- Contribution of time, skills, and treasure
We believe that each student is gifted with certain skills, talents and resources that are invaluable to the needs of society, and we encourage our students not to hoard these skills for self but to use them to serve the community in which they live. By doing this we are molding students to become precious jewels in the communities in which they are a part of.
Social development as evidenced by
- Respect for individual, cultural, and religious diversity
At GAA, we have a variety of students from a variety of different backgrounds, ethnicities, religions and ideas. It is our goal to help students to not only respect individuals and ideas but to have a respect for cultures and religious diversity.
- Service within the community that demonstrates their love for God and man
One of the resounding themes of GAA is service. We want our students to be servants to our communities in order to demonstrate our love for others and our love for Christ, who, when on earth, lead a life of service and love.
- Assuming a leadership role in the school, church, and community
We strive for our students to develop leadership skills in school, church, and the community. By assuming leadership positions, they will be better able to effectively lead their communities towards a brighter future.
- Demonstrating appreciation, understanding and stewardship of God’s creation
The Creator of the universe has granted each of His children the responsibility of caring for His creation here on earth. We endeavor to instill in our students this realization of our responsibility so that we may be faithful stewards of His creation.
