CITIZENSHIP GRADE
You will receive a citizenship grade for science class on your report card. Please read “Classroom Rules” in this syllabus and refer to the student handbook for more information.
TARDIES/ABSENCES AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
You are considered “absent” from the class if you are ten minutes or later after the period has begun. Please remember that three (3) unexcused tardies equal one (1) absence and ten unexcused absences will result in a No Credit (NC) grade. IMPORTANT: If you are not here for a test (quizzes, chapter/unit tests, cumulative quarter exams, and cumulative final exam) for any reason on the day and time that it is scheduled, you will most likely be given a different test. Please note that there is a fee for each semester exam not taken when scheduled. See the student handbook and school calendar. If you have an unexcused tardy/absence, your assignment may/may not be accepted at Mrs. Larrew’s discretion. For each day that you have an excused absence, you are allowed one day for each day you are absent to submit work. You are encouraged to call a study buddy for information about missed assignments so that they are completed in a timely manner. Assignments may be faxed to the school, preferably before the class period begins. The school’s fax number is 789-3547. Late work that is accepted may/may not have up to 20% of the final points deducted.
HOMEWORK
You will have one or more homework assignments every school day. One assignment is to review the lesson for the day (and previous lessons if you have time.) You will be expected to write/highlight study notes. A second assignment may be posted on the board. Please make sure that you copy the homework assignment in your planner. The letters HW must be written in a circle at the top of every homework assignment. You will lose half a point (0.5) if you forget this instruction. You may want to place your homework in the front cover to remind you to turn it in.
REQUIRED INFORMATION ON SUBMITTED WORK
After the first two weeks of the beginning of the school you will be assigned a science student number. This number must be written in a box at the top right corner box of every paper you submit for grading. In the top left corner of your paper you should write your name, subject, page number(s)/assignment title, and the due date of the assignment. You may lose points if you forget to write the page number/assignment title and/or your student number.
WRITTEN REPORTS
You should not have more than five (5) grammatical and/or spelling errors in research reports and lab reports, including your science fair project paper. Review the plagiarism handout. Don’t “steal” someone’s work. Give credit to your source(s).
PORTFOLIO (BINDER)
One of the most important study skills is to be organized. You will be graded on your organization skills. Please keep your portfolio organized at all times. Your name, subject, and assigned class number must be on the front cover and the spine. You will need the following seven (7) dividers/tabs: Important Info, 1st Quarter, 2nd Quarter, 3rd Quarter, 4th Quarter, Experiments, and Science Journal. All graded papers should be filed chronologically in your binder within your quarter notes. Keep graded experiment notes in the “Experiments” section and graded journal entries in the “Science Journal” section for all four quarters. Please remember to date all entries. It is important that you do not lose or damage your notes as you need to refer to them while studying for cumulative quarter and final exams. In the experiment section of your portfolio, you will write notes about all the experiments you do including your science fair project. You must number each page in this section. Your notes must be handwritten. Please write neatly as you are not to remove any pages. You will be notified when all your experiment notes must be submitted for grading. You must bring your binder to class. You are not allowed to store your binder in the classroom. The classroom is conveniently located across from the lockers.
CLASSROOM RULES
1. Follow all school rules, especially safety rules. (Just to name a few: No chewing gum, eating, or drinking anything other than plain water is allowed in the classroom. Cell phones and other electronic items should be turned off. Don’t maliciously damage school property.)
2. Listen quietly and follow directions promptly.
3. Don’t use God’s name in vain. Use only appropriate language.
4. Treat others with respect in action and words. (Just to name a few: Don’t touch things without proper permission, especially in the “lab area.” Don’t disturb other people’s experiments/projects. Don’t harass/fight others.)
5. Be honest in your actions and words. (Just to name a few: Don’t lie. Don’t cheat. Don’t plagiarize.)
Consequences: Praise for following the rules. You may even receive a gold card.
For disobeying the rules, any of the following actions may occur: receive a verbal warning, be separated from the group, receive a white behavior card, and/or have a parent/guardian called. Serious offenses will be directed to the administration. Your citizenship grade may be affected depending on the misbehavior and/or frequency.

2. Quietly sit down and place your textbook, planner, binder, and pencil on your table.
3. Copy the homework assignment written on the chalkboard.

8. Submit required work when due.
9. File graded papers in your portfolio when they are returned to you.
10. Wait until you are dismissed by Mrs. Larrew.
