Guam Adventist Academy’s food manager, Vicky Gabel, strives for quality in all of the lunch dishes served at the school’s kitchen. Gabel loves to cook! Her experience ranges from preparing delicious (vegetarian) gourmet fare for her family to feeding larger groups at social functions, schools, and most recently, the SDA Wellness Center.
Gabel grew up on a farm in Central Washington. She appreciates good, clean food. The bonus for GAA is that she truly believes, “healthy food can be tasty.” “The closer food is to the way God made it, the healthier for you. People can be healthier if they eat better… a little at a time.” She believes that students at GAA are getting a leg up on leading a healthier lifestyle. “Kids here are building the foundations for their bodies for the rest of their lives. There will be a payout when they get older.” Because Gabel has worked with dietitians, she knows about nutrition, effective food combinations, and what foods to avoid. Because she is a mother to five children and five grandchildren, she knows what tastes delicious!

Nutri-Delicious Lunch
Parents are able to pay two weeks in advanced for their child’s lunch. To submit prepaidorders, please call our office to make arrangements.
Parents are asked to provide nutritious lunches for their children. Fresh fruit juice and water are encouraged instead of high sugar content drinks. Drinks with high sugar content such as soda pop, tea and drinks with caffeine are prohibited on campus. Students do better in school when they are not artificially energized by high sugar and caffeinated food items. When the body has used up the sudden energy burst, it responds to the drop of energy with a sense of fatigue. Complex carbohydrate foods that provide ongoing release of energy as they slowly metabolize throughout the day are a better energy source for students. Carbohydrates include fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for students. Often when a student reports a headache during the morning, they did not eat breakfast. After they have some food, they usually are OK and return to their classroom. Please make it a priority to arrange the home schedule to include breakfast time for your children, before they leave for school. A snack sent with the student might alleviate the problem, too.
